First mobile consular service by Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2009

During 18 – 20 June 2009, Amb. Karn Chiranond leaded Embassy’s officials, staffs, and a couple of volunteers to Ruwais which is situated around 3 hours by car from Abu Dhabi, for the purpose of visiting the Thai community living and working there. The majority of Thais in Ruwais work as labourers in the construction field and have recently arrived while the rest are engineers and technicians at Abu Dhabi Polymer (Borouge) who live in the company’s housing complex with their families.

During the visit to the labour camp, the Embassy had allocated some time for questions and answers by labourers which mainly revolved around labour rights and benefits in addition to instructions and advices given on local customs and culture. Moreover, some authentic Thai food and medicine were distributed to all labourers while they were amused during Karaoke singing prepared by the Embassy to alleviate stress caused by the heat during this time of the year and the unadjusted settlement for those newly arrived.

The visit to the labour camp was escorted by the Thais who worked at Borouge and contributed in terms of good advices from their personal experiences besides snacks and beverages.
