On 14 April 2016, Mrs. Viphawan Benniman, Chargé d’Affaires, was invited to preside over the Songkran Festival 2016 at St. Regis Saadiya Island. 
In the opening speech, the Chargé d’Affaires explained the history of Songkran which marks as Thai traditional New Year’s Day. She also expressed appreciation to St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort and Spa Hotel for organizing the event in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy for 5 years. The Festival would be held from 13 – 23 April 2016 in Sontaya Restaurant, and helping promote Thai culture and tradition among participants from various nationalities. 
Afterwards, all participants had a chance to experience delicious Thai dinner prepared by Chef Peter of Sontaya Restaurant and were entertained by traditional Thai performances from Thailand.
