Songkran Festival in Abu Dhabi

            On 16 April 2010, Thai Community in the UAE joined in celebrating Songkran Festival 2011 as organized by Mrs. Banjong Cacey at Sheraton Corniche Hotel, Abu Dhabi.  Mrs. Cacey mentioned in her remarks that the objective of organizing this festival was to showcase Thai tradition and culture in the UAE.

            H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Thai Ambassador to the UAE, presided over the opening ceremony and gave a speech saying the Embassy had continuously supported the organization of Songkran Festival over many years to promote the Thai identity and enhance goodwill among the local and expat communities in the UAE.  

            The participants had the opportunity to witness the Thai tradition in many aspects including  the pouring of scented water on Buddha image, splashing of scented water in a friendly manner, wishing one another happiness through cotton yarn, performing of Thai dances, and beauty pageant contest. Besides, there was raffle draw to win grand prizes sponsored by the Embassy, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Etihad Airway.
