The Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi supported the Loy Kratong festival organized by the Thai Women’s Club in Abu Dhabi on 18 November 2011 at the British Club, Abu Dhabi. About 200 guests attended the event which was presided over by H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Thai Ambassador to the UAE.

            In his opening remarks, the Ambassador thanked the Thai Women’s Club in Abu Dhabi for helping promote a beautiful, well-preserved Thai tradition in the UAE. He then briefly explained the history and meaning of Loy Kratong, asking the guests to send their best wishes and thoughts to the flood victims in Thailand. Afterwards, the Ambassador and his spouse led all the guests to the beach in order to float their “Kratongs”

            In a delightful evening, the guests were treated with delicious Thai food, diverse cultural performances by the Thai Women’s Club and Thai youth in Abu Dhabi. They were also in contention to win prizes at the raffles draw, sponsored by the Embassy and Thai Airways International Dubai Office.
