Thai Ambassador to the UAE represented Thailand in the 4th Preparatory Commission for IRENA

                         Ambassador Somchai Charanasomboon was appointed by H.E. the Foreign Minister of Thailand as head of the Thai delegation to attend the 4th  Preparatory Commission for IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) which was held during 24-25 October 2010 at ADNEC,      Abu Dhabi.

                        IRENA has its full fledge status of international organization on 8 July 2010 with its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. Today IRENA has 148 members including the European Union.  Currently Thailand has Observer Status to the IRENA and is due to join the agency as member in the near future.

                        During this meeting, which was represented by over 300 delegates from more than 100 countries, a number of administrative issues were discussed and debated including the budget, the setting up of the headquarters, various projects that are underway, reports of “best practices” from different countries. The meeting also nominated Mr. Adnan Amin, a Kenyan citizen, to replace Mrs. Helene Pelosse who resigned recently, as the new Interim Director-General of IRENA.
