Diplomatic Group for Spouses of Ambassadors to the UAE hosted charity event for Thai flood victims
The Diplomatic Group for Spouses of Ambassadors to the UAE, led by Mrs. Viyada Charanasomboon, spouse of Thai Ambassador to the UAE, hosted a charity event for flood victims in Thailand on 5 December 2011 at Monte Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat Island, a brand new sports and leisure club on the shore of Arabian Gulf.
The fair featured a broad range of items brought together by the spouses of Ambassadors to the UAE, such as clothing, jewelry accessories, home decorations, artworks, food and delicacies, which were put either on sale or auction to the visitors. The Royal Thai Embassys contribution included Thai gifts, handicrafts and souvenirs from Thai Ambassadors wife, several paintings by a famous Thai artist based in Abu Dhabi and Thai spa vouchers, all of which were put on auction.
The event was a remarkable gesture of solidarity of the diplomatic and foreign community in Abu Dhabi towards the Thai people. It managed to attract about 200 foreign and Thai visitors and gathered 50,500 Dirhams (approximately 429,250 baht), which was handed over to H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Thai Ambassador to the UAE, by the spouse of Luxembourgs Chargé dAffaires to the UAE. The Royal Thai Embassy will forward this amount of money to the Thai Red Cross Society at the earliest opportunity.
