Thai Ambassador to the UAE accompanied Minister of Commerce to bilateral meetings with 2 UAE Ministers

            On 17 May 2012, H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Thai Ambassador to the UAE, accompanied H.E. Mr. Boonsong Teriyapirom, Minister of Commerce, to bilateral meetings with H.H. Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the UAE, and H.E. Mr. Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy of the UAE, as part of the Minister of Commerce’s visit to the UAE during 16-18 May 2012.

            In his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Trade, the Minister of Commerce expressed his gratitude for the former’s support which led the UAE Government to uplift the import ban of Thai poultry meat products and invited Her Highness the Minister to visit Thailand with a delegation of high-level UAE government officers and business persons in order to promote bilateral trade and investment ties. Her Highness the Minister, in turn, expressed appreciation for the Thai people and praised Thailand as a favourite travelling destination for Emiratis. Her Highness also added that food and energy security were priority issues of the UAE at present.

            Afterwards, in his meeting with the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Commerce asked for support in increasing UAE rice import from Thailand, while also mentioning that Thailand was eager to share knowledge with the UAE on energy and to initiate investment to promote food security for both sides. The Minister of Economy then expressed interest in doing joint projects with Thailand on food security in Thailand’s neighbouring countries and also invited Thailand to use the UAE as the logistic hub for Thai exports, citing the UAE’s world class sea- and airports as well as strong services and aviation sectors as the advantages.
