On 23 September 2012, 20 members of the Standing Committee on Prevention and Mitigation of the Effects of Natural and Public Disasters, the House of Representatives of Thailand, led by Mr. Jatuporn Jaroenchua, 4th Vice Chairman of the Committee, traveled to Abu Dhabi for a study visit on management of natural and public disasters.
In the morning, the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi led the delegation to receive a briefing on the UAE’s disaster management by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the national coordinating agency on disaster management, and to visit the National Operating Centre which is located inside NCEMA’s perimeter. Later in the afternoon, the Embassy gave a briefing on the evacuation plan for Thai nationals in the UAE, which is updated yearly to better suit the current environment and covers both natural and man-made disasters such as war and political conflict.
The aforementioned activities were part of the delegation’s study visit to the UAE during 20-25 September 2012, which includes other issues on disaster prevention and mitigation such as sand storms, coastal erosion and evacuation in skyscrapers.
