On 22 November 2016, the Cabinet of Thailand approved the extension of non-Immigrant Visa-O-X (Long Stay/Retirement) to maximum of 10 years. All visa applicants can apply for visa-O-X at Royal Thai Embassy/Consular or Immigration Bureau.
The purpose of this particular visa is to promote longer term stay for foreign traveler to Thailand. Visitors from 14 nations with the age over 50 years old will be allowed to get this special type of visa and stay in Kingdom of Thailand in long term maximum 10 years. Every 5 years Visa-O-X must be reviewed and approved, the applicant will be allowed to stay in Thailand 5 years at a time and the visa fee is 10,000 Baht.
In accordance with the notification of Ministry of Interior of Thailand B.E. 2560 (2017) dated 26th May (effective from 11th August 2017) granting a non-immigrant visa O-X (Long stay/Retirement) to maximum of 10 years, the Royal Thai Embassy wishes to further clarify the followings:
1) Applicant’s qualifications
- Age over 50 years old
- Applicants must have nationalities and passport of (1) Japan (2) Australia (3) Denmark (4) Finland (5) France (6) Germany (7) Italy (8) Netherlands (9) Norway (10) Sweden (11) Switzerland (12) United Kingdom (13) Canada (14) United States of America
- Applicants must have money deposited in Thai banks located in Thailand at least 3 million Baht or have money deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand at least 1.8 million Baht and have income at least 1.2 million Baht per year. The money must be kept in bank account at least 1 year before withdrawing and the money must be left in the account not less than 1.5 million Baht.
- Applicants must have no criminal history in Thailand, country of origin and county of permanent residency that are threated to the security of Thailand.
- Applicants must have no forbidden diseases according to ministerial regulation Number 14 (B.E. 2535) which include Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction, third phase of Syphilis.
- Applicants must have medical insurance at all time of staying in the country and medical claims for outpatient must not less than 40,000 Baht, for inpatient must not less than 400,000 Baht.
- Foreigners who enter Thailand with other type of Visa can contact Immigration and ask for change to Non O-X visa.
- Foreigners who enter Thailand with Non O-X visa can change from Non O-X to other type of Visa by contacting immigration. Spouse and child’s visa approval will be changed according to status of the main applicant. However, spouse can ask for Non O-X by himself/ herself if qualification meets requirement.
2) Required Documentation
1. Passport: must be valid for at least six months from the date of travel.
2. Three (3) Application forms and 3 photographs (size 4 X 6 cm. straight face, no wearing hat, taken within the last 6 months)
3. One (1) Biography form
4. Proof of Financial Adequate
4.1 Certificate of bank deposit stated bank’s contact information, copy of book bank and bank statement which show fixed deposit with money not less than 3 million baht deposited in Thai commercial banks located in Thailand or
4.2 Certificate of bank deposit stated bank’s contact information, copy of book bank and bank statement which show fixed deposit with money not less than 1.8 million Baht deposited in Thai commercial banks located in Thailand and income statement not less than 1.2 million per year. (Royal Thai Embassy/Consular must acknowledge applicants that once they enter Thailand, they must have money deposited in Thai commercial banks located in Thailand not less than 3 million Baht within 1 year.)
5. Certificate of criminal record clearance from a country of origin. In case that foreigner has permanent residence in other country, applicant must provide related document from that country.
6. Medical certificate from the country that applicants apply visa stating that applicants don’t have any forbidden diseases according to ministerial regulation No. 14 (B.E.2535) which includes Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction, third phase of syphilis. The medical certificate must not be over 3 months.
7. Copy of evidence state that applicants have insurance (according to Office of Insurance commission requirement) and Thai health insurance which has insurance money for outpatient not less than 40,000 Baht and for inpatient not less than 400,000 Baht.
8. Application fee: 1,400 UAE Dirhams
Lawful spouse and child, aged under 20 years old, will be able to ask for O-X visa and have long stay in Thailand as well.
9. Registered spouse (no age restriction) must show a copy of marriage certificate together with documents stated in 1-8.
10. Legal child ages not exceed 20 years of age must show a copy of birth certificate or child proofing document and also have to submit documents number 1-3,7 and 8
